Description

Art Hansen found success early. He had his first solo exhibition, at the Seattle Art Museum, in 1952, shortly after concluding his undergraduate studies at the University of Washington. The same year he was awarded a Pulitzer Prize, and in 1953 he won a Fulbright Fellowship, which allowed him to continue his studies for a year in Germany, at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste, in Munich. Since 1960, he has managed to support himself and his family, quite comfortably, as printmaker and watercolorist.

As with all of the artist’s work, the imagery of Winter Forest was inspired by the natural beauty of Vashon Island, in the Puget Sound just below Seattle, Washington, where Hansen has lived since 1963.
