Description

This fabric doll could be mistaken for dolls taken from graves in the Chancay Valley of central coastal Peru. Between 1000 and 1400 C.E., people made dolls of woven textiles and placed them in burials. Not only are dolls looted from graves and sold on the illegal antiquities market, people collect scraps of ancient textiles that litter looted sites and fashion replicas for sale to tourists.
