Description

The decision to capture a town in print was often exciting news, and local newspapers, seeing the venture as an opportunity to stimulate the growth of the community, regularly reported on the projects with enthusiasm. When C. J. Corbin traveled to Bellefonte in the early summer of 1878, the Bellefonte Republican offered the following report in its June 28 issue:

"Messrs. C. J. Corbin & Co. are in town prospecting with the intention of publishing a view of Bellefonte. The view will be sketched by an experienced artist, subject to the inspection and approval of a committee of our citizens consisting of Gen. James A. Beaver, Robert Valentine, and J. W. Moore. The publishers seem delighted with the scenery about town, and think that our village and surroundings will make a view equal to any they have ever published. May they be successful!"
