Description

Born in the small town of Darlington, Wisconsin, about fifty miles southwest of Madison, Herman Brosius worked mostly with lithographers throughout the Midwest and in parts of Ontario, Canada. He did travel east to produce some views in 1873; however, all but one were of towns and cities in New York State. One reason why he might have journeyed into south central Pennsylvania to draw this view is because Highspire, located on the east bank of the Susquehanna River just below Harrisburg, was the hometown of Wisconsin publisher Joseph Stoner, with whom Brosius worked regularly.
