Description

This unglazed vase, with its darkly earth-toned coloring and metallic texture, is characteristic of Bizen ware. Created by one of the most prominent of modern Bizen potters shortly after he established his own independent kiln in 1965, it embodies a balance between tradition and individual artistic innovation. The vase’s conventional symmetrical form contrasts with seemingly haphazard markings, such as the broad concave indentation running laterally along one side and the smear-like marking that sits just above the slightly expanded base.
