Description

This plate is adorned with a mesmerizing pattern that draws the eye around and into the middle of the design. This effect was achieved using a style called hakeme, or brush patting. In this style, a white glaze is applied using a stiff-bristled brush while the piece spins slowly on a throwing wheel. The technique can be employed with rigid uniformity or reckless abandon; the choice reflects the style of the individual artist.
