Linen canvas
Historically, different kinds of linen canvas have been reserved for different uses: tightly woven linen consisting of small threads (Example A) is best for detailed work where a rough texture would intrude too much upon the composition. A heavier weave (such as Example B) can better withstand more forceful brushwork and heavy impasto.
