Navajo weavers
Many First Nations weavers, most notably members of the Diné (also known as the Navajo tribe) produce wool thread using the “thigh method” of spinning: a seated spinner uses a long spindle that reaches the ground. Holding the cluster of fiber in the left hand, the spinner rolls the fiber-loaded spindle along their right thigh from knee to hip in order to twist the yarn.
