Description
Although several extant examples of Flight to Tomorrow, including the Palmer Museum copy on view here, have been dated 1948 by Citron, the print is given to 1949 in the catalogue for the artist’s exhibition of graphic work at the New School, held in 1950, which first introduced her abstract intaglios to the public. The later date is credible in that the imagery is clearly less referential than Citron’s other prints of 1948, such as Squid under Pier, and the color scheme appears to have been applied with greater sophistication.
