Description

Wright was a renowned Pittsburgh area artist born in Homestead, Allegheny County. Her painting Through a Back Yard was first exhibited in the 27th annual exhibition of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh in 1937. Wright’s work was chosen year after year for inclusion in the Carnegie Institute's Exhibition of Paintings by Selected Pittsburgh Artists. Her paintings were shown in the 6th annual (1939), 7th annual (1940), 8th annual (1941), and 9th annual (1942) Carnegie Exhibitions. She did not exhibit in the 10th annual because of military duty. Frances Rebecca Wright served in the U.S. Naval Reserves during World War II as a lieutenant. After the war she returned to her studio in Homestead before marrying a fellow Naval Reserve lieutenant and moving to Minnesota.
